Eyre Square Shopping Centre, Galway

Overview

Eyre Square, built in 1992, opened in a flurry of success. Time passed and little or no upgrading had taken place.

In 2015 Douglas Wallace Consultants were engaged by Marathon Asset Management to develop a master plan for the centre in a number of phases while the centre remained trading.

Our Role

Initial Surveys and reviews highlighted life safety upgrades that were required. Our role was to undertake two projects concurrently. Firstly, the upgrading works in the existing centre while the trading remained, including moving existing tenants and all that goes with upgrading life safety systems in a live environment.

The second part of the project was the demolition of Eyre Square Entrance which never worked and acted as a barrier to what should have been the main entrance located on the direct access route from the main bus and train station.

Work commenced on the main entrance in March 2016 and finished in February 2017 and opened in March 2018, fully let with great tenants, Diesel, Starbucks, Chopped and Regatta.

“Douglas Wallace Consultants were engaged to review the Eyre Square Centre including the life safety systems and redevelopment of the square entrances. The result was exactly what we were looking for; a destination and most importantly a substantial increase in footfall. Well done lads”
